TimeTalks Speaker Profile Geoffrey Mead BA, MA, PhD (pending)

I was the Convenor for Landscape, Locality and Local History Studies at CCE University of Sussex from 1996 to 2010. I currently teach on the Landscape Studies part-time degree course and on the full time Geography degree. I lecture across South East England on Landscape and Local History topics and have appeared on national TV and national and local radio discussing these topics. My doctoral research has been on the development of interwar suburbia and the associated issues of landscape change and housing issues. My interests are in helping local environmental groups in fund raising and also actively in woodland management, principally at Hollingbury Woods, Brighton; but I also do a lot of work with Brighton & Hove libraries in promoting understanding of the city’s history and urban landscape.

Topics for Talks or Walks

I can give PowerPoint lectures on the following subjects:
Brighton & Hove history
Sussex landscapes
Coast of Sussex
Sussex agricultural history
Sussex industrial history
Interwar housing styles
Contrasting Sussex communities
Sussex seaside resort histories

I can also do ‘bespoke’ talks for groups and I can lead guided walks in urban and rural localities. During the Brighton Festival Fringe (May) I lead walks in Montpelier and the North Laines. (See the Fringe Festival Site and Brochure for details).

Fees and Availability

My standard fees are £60 plus travel costs from Brighton
