Welcome! You will find here details of talks, walks
and lectures on history and archaeology in Sussex and Hampshire. Find out about the past in 2020!
My name is John Manley. I am a
professional archaeologist and Trustee of the Sussex Archaeological Society. I've excavated at Fishbourne
Roman Palace near Chichester and I've also dug in a number of countries including Iran, Afghanistan,
Ethiopia, Jordan, South Africa and the Caribbean.
In 2012 I published a book on The Archaeology of the South Downs National Park (available from www.sussexpast.co.uk). Two more of my books - The Romans (Hodder) and A Walking Guide to the Archaeology of the South
Downs National Park(The History Press) were published in 2013. My book on Archaeology (Hodder) came out in 2014. In 2016 I edited two books on aspects of the cultural history of the South Downs National Park - one on Traditional Homes and one on the Secrets of the High Woods project. A new book on Churches in the National Park appeared in 2017. I regularly review archaeology books for Current Archaeology, Britain's most popular archaeology magazine. For my
book reviews see www.facebook.com/DrJohnManley.
I set up TimeTalks to provide an
interesting and engaging talk or walk in Sussex and Hampshire that can be tailored to the interests of your
Group, Society or Organisation. I try to bring the past, its archaeology and history, alive
in an entertaining way. My goal is both to illustrate how the past shapes our present, and how our present differs
from our past.
I look forward to hearing from you!
